Kicking goals in a male-dominated field

23 Feb 2015

Last month, Rockface sat down with our first female apprentice Tamara Baker to learn about what sparks her determination.

Tamara is an apprentice boiler maker, and admits that her brother was the biggest influence behind her decision to become a boiler maker.

"I would watch him make lots of different things at home and pestered him to teach me!! It was a natural choice for me." Tamara explained.

When asked what are the biggest challenges of the role, Tamara explained "A lot of people would assume that my biggest challenge would be working in a male-dominated field but that's not the case. The guys I work with treat me like an equal - so really my only challenge is to prove myself worthy and capable of working in a male-dominated industry."
