Production Drill PD0065 Rebuild

PJL Group recently finalised a complete midlife rebuild on Production Drill PD0065 for Pybar. This drill had been parked up for over 12 months prior to coming into the PJL Orange facilities where the machine was stripped completely bare and fully reconditioned.

“While the biggest challenge was the fact the machine was not running at all when it arrived, he and his team were able to deliver a product which presented and operated as new”. Project Manager Dave Muchena said.

The machine was fully commissioned at Hera Mine prior to being dispatched to its current work location in Western Australia.

The rebuild is another quality product delivered by PJL Group to its important clients – incident free and on budget! Well done Dave and the team.

Newcrest Mining Sealink Project

This project saw the extensive upgrade of Newcrest’s old facility in Blayney to a new facility on the Sealink rail connection. The close proximity to the rail connection enabled fast and efficient links to ports and transport hubs.

The upgrade involved the design and construction of 2 large, and 2 smaller steel tanks. The large tanks are over 13m in height and have a storage capacity of over 120,000 litres of concentrate. This additional storage capacity will enable additional throughput of ore to China and increases the overall growth capacity of Newcrest.

Following the success in delivery of the tanks, and through our quality and dedication of our people, PJL Group, have since been awarded further work packages on the Sealink site.

Demobilisation of Sandvik T60 Trucks a success!

PJL Group, in conjunction with Clarkes Cranes, recently facilitated the demobilisation and removal of 8 Sandvik T60 Trucks from Newcrest. Newcrest were selling their decommissioned fleet and asked PJL Group to assist them in the removal of the trucks from site. The trucks were lifted onto floats and escorted safely from site with zero incidents.

PJL Group would like to thank some key people for enabling the safe and successful completion of this task; Mark & the crew from Clarkes Cranes, Tony Turner and his drivers from Turners Heavy Haulage, Hugh Robinson, Nigel Ryan, Sean Murphy (Crusher), Nick Emms, Shane Downer, Lucinda Ireland and Adam the security guard at Ridgeway for all of their assistance.

PJL Group goes international!!

PJL Group has been working closely with Fresco, an engineering & design company based out of Auckland. The core work has been primarily performing manufacturing, fabrication and sub-contracting work, with many large-scale works being sent inter-state and overseas.

PJL Group are currently fabricating a large tower for Fresco that will be installed into a food processing plant in Melbourne.

PJL Group has an ongoing relationship with Fresco, and many other companies based on our commitment, attention to detail and our ability to cater for urgent, large-scale work

Rail Mat Project at Ridgeway

PJL Group recently completed the manufacture of 1,000 metres of dual rail mat to be installed into the East & West tipples underground at Ridgeway.

Winning this work was a terrific coup for PJL Group, as rail was an entirely new medium for us. Once again, showcasing PJL Group’s ability to quickly adapt to develop this “fit for purpose” solution for Cadia.

The rail mats are to be cast into the concrete slab for high traffic areas to reinforce the concrete slab, increasing its longevity and minimising any chance of wheel ruts. In other words, it is a massive cost saver!

Roller Change-Out Basket Project

PJL Group worked closely with Cadia Valley Operations to design a ‘first-of-its-kind’ roller change-out basket. This innovative idea has removed the need to pull up the belt to change rollers, saving time and money!

This project has come to fruition through PJL Group’s 2D and 3D graphic design capabilities, which allowed specifically designed and modified components with the greatest attention to detail and accuracy.

Industrial Shed Project

PJL Group have been busy this year, building a large industrial shed with 8 individual bays. PJL Group began designing the shed in June 2013, utilising their 2D and 3D design capabilities. Standing 9.8m high and 11m x 20m on the ground, the shed has been designed for maximum utilisation of space.

The shed can be divided in half or into sections, with the dividing walls being able to be added or removed to suit the user. It would suit anybody with large storage needs, a manufacturing or mechanical business or someone who needs to store large machinery such as cranes

PJL Group Caters For Multiple Re-Builds

In 2013, PJL Group re-built three loaders at the same time, across their Orange workshops. This was an outstanding achievement for the entire PJL Group team. The scale of work testing our team, and true to form, the positive response showcases our capability to accommodate multiple large scale works at the one time.

Non Destructive Testing at Angus Place Colliery

PJL Group recently performed non-destructing testing (NDT) at Angus Place Colliery. This included 5 days of inspecting all QDS attachments, which needs to occur every 12 months within Australian safety standards. NDT not only ensures all machines stay operable and safe, but also saves both time and money in product evaluation, troubleshooting and research.

PJL Group provides NDT services including ultrasonics, magnetic particle, dye penetrant and visual inspection as well as metallurgical consultants and failure investigations into route causes, utilising a full metallurgical lab. PJL Group can offer inspections for pressure vessels, tanks, welding, cranes (including 10 yearly) and all mobile and fixed plant mining inspections.

Complete In-House Service Delivers Benefits

In 2013, PJL Group was working in their Orange workshop on two mechanical and structural rebuilds in large mining equipment from Mt Isa QLD.

Though the Orange workshop is some way away from Mt Isa, PJL Group were chosen because of the quality delivered, representing by meeting or exceeding equipment availability targets once it is back on the job.

The first machine, a Sandvik LH621 Loader arrived mid-May 2013. This machine was stripped back to bare frames where significant damage was discovered in the front frame, requiring major structural repairs. The actual frame was bent and while this would usually mean replacing part of the frame, PJL Group were able to repair the front frame to original equipment specifications and certified Australian standards, delivering a significant cost benefit to the client
